Playscape Design
After meeting with you and learning more about your family, we will develop a formal, written proposal for your family’s playscape. To best capture for our clients the spirit and vision of the project we initially produce hand-drafted renderings and drawings that clients typically find more accessible and informative than computer drafted designs.
Our playscape designs are motivated by a growing body of child development research that shows the critical role that free, kid-organized and kid-directed outdoor play has in children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Founder and lead designer, Robert Wagmiller, a former university professor and certified recreation installation specialist, draws on his expertise in child development to create an innovative, developmentally appropriate, and beautiful playscape design for your property.
Curating the Building Blocks of Creativity
Our experience — along with studies of the developmental benefits of outdoor play — tell us that it is the small, loose parts (rocks, logs, planks of wood, ropes, bricks, fabric, pipes, duct tape) and simple tools (water pumps, buckets, scales, hand tools, pulleys, levers, measuring instruments, microscopes) that are the key to unlocking kids’ creativity and fostering collaborative play. A central part of any Craft of Play design is a carefully curated collection of “loose parts” chosen to inspire your kids to become junior builders, engineers, scientists, artists, explorers, or anything else their imaginations can dream up.
Collaborative and Iterative Design Process
Throughout the design process we will work closely with you to ensure that our design meets your and your child’s needs. Upon acceptance of the final project proposal, we will begin the permitting process if required by your municipality and start your build.
